Curriculum Services Canada (CSC) supports publishers and developers of educational products and programs by:

Quality Standards

Quality standards are important in education. Teachers and parents want guarantees that your product or program will work with children and youth, both in the classroom and at home. They want to know that your resource meets the following criteria:

  • Curriculum correlation
  • Current, relevant, and balanced content
  • Current and accepted methodologies
  • Useful strategies for assessment and evaluation of student achievement
  • Issues of bias and inclusion addressed
  • Appropriate and functional format

CSC has developed standards for print and non-print materials, including textbooks, websites, video collections, software, CD-ROMs, and multi-media packages. Our standards are customized and under continuous review. They reflect changes in our culture and environment and differences in curriculum across Canada.

Evaluation Process for Quality Standards

The
Curriculum Services Canada SealSpecially trained educators apply our detailed criteria to your material to ensure that it meets quality standards. You then receive our Seal of Quality, which shows teachers and parents that your material is safe for classroom or home use. We post your product information, and our recommendation on the Supplementary Resources section of our website for five years.

We customize our evaluations to your product or program. Fees start at $1500 and are based on the complexity and volume of the material. Web posting for five years is included. Contact csc@curriculum.org for information on our quoting process.

For information on evaluating your product for inclusion on the Ontario list of approved textbooks, see the Liste Trillium/Trillium List.

Mentoring Product Development to Meet Quality Standards

A CSC team of specially trained educators works with your developers to ensure that your final product meets quality standards for classroom or home learning. From concept to completion, our mentoring team delivers constructive, positive input for improving your product. Our mentors give you fresh, considered reactions to your material before it is published. Fees are customized.

Consultation to Meet Quality Standards

CSC offers senior curriculum expertise in all subject areas in English, French, and in many international and Native languages. This is a one-time intervention to provide advice about how your resource can meet quality standards and support the targeted curriculum for one or more provinces and territories across Canada. Our fee is $100 per hour for a consultation.

Publishing and Print On Demand

As a part of our development process, we offer design, editing, and printing services for small or independent organizations and individuals who do not have the capacity to manage these aspects of getting an educational product to market. We offer this service to clients whose products have been mentored or developed in collaboration with CSC and are eligible for our red Seal of Quality. Fees vary according to services required.
